Lynda Pfitzer, 64, St. Paul, MN and originally of Java, SD, died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab, Aberdeen, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, February 1, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, Eureka, SD, with Pastor Gary Bergman leading the service. Organist will be Esther Grosz and Pastor Gary and Linda Bergman will sing “What a Day that will Be”. The congregation will sing “Amazing Grace”, “I love to tell the Story”, and “Just as I Am”. Usher will be Wallace Kusler.
Visitation will be at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, from 2:00-5:00 PM Thursday and resumes at the Church 10:00 AM Friday.
Lynda Elaine Pfitzer, daughter of Hulda (Wolff) and Gehbardt C. Pfitzer was born at Mobridge, SD on December 12, 1948. She was raised and educated in Java, graduating with the JHS Class of 1967. She attended South Dakota State University in Brookings where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She started her career as a Registered Nurse (RN) at Dakota Midland Hospital in Aberdeen. After eight months there, she moved to the St. Paul, MN area where she was employed as an RN at United Hospital. In 1993, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and retired from nursing. She remained in Minnesota until 2002, when she moved to the Bowdle Nursing Home. The last 10 days of her life were spent in hospice care at Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Lynda was a member of First Baptist Church in Eureka. Her hobbies included reading and watching old time comedies on TV. Lynda was also a great traveler, taking trips to various European countries, Graceland, Opryland, and Alcatraz Prison.
Lynda is survived by her uncle, Robert (Joyce) Pfitzer, of Aberdeen; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father on January 14, 2003 and her mother on May 14, 2001.
Casketbearers will be Lynda’s cousin, Craig A. Pfitzer of Aberdeen; Don Heupel, Dennis Heupel, and Greg Grenz all from her church family in Eureka; and Mary Zimmer and Raul “Popeye” Alvarez both Bowdle Nursing Home staff members.
