Chance Arnold Rieger, 23, Rapid City, SD passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013.

Memorial visitation will be Wednesday 6:00-8:00 PM at the Lien Funeral Home.

A brief memorial service, with Chance’s family present, will be Thursday 4:00 PM at the funeral home with Chance’s high school science teacher, Brad Johnson, saying a few words. There will also be video and audio from the memorial service held at the School of Mines and Technology. The service will conclude with a recording of "You Raise Me Up" by Celtic Woman.

Chance is the son of Mary Lynn (Kaiser) and Loel Rieger, was born on May 31, 1989 in Aberdeen, SD. His formal education consisted of kindergarten-senior year at Bowdle School. After high school graduation, Chance attended School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City where he acquired a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a GPA of 3.514. He passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam. Currently, he was a graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Some of Chance’s hobbies included: hunting, shooting targets, playing video games and hanging out and keeping in touch with friends; yet, his main passion was education. Chance completed the 110 hours Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) course. Through SDSM&T Chance installed and tested equipment for the Chemical and Biological Engineering Lab, was a teacher’s assistant for numerous college courses at SDSM&T, did safety studies on pesticides for undergraduate research, and nearly completed a Master’s thesis project.

Chance is survived by his parents Loel and Mary Lynn Rieger of Rapid City; two brothers – Christopher Rieger of Jackson, MS and Chad (Kayla) Rieger of Weatherford, OK. maternal grandmother, Laurene Kaiser, Hoven, SD; and paternal grandmother, Wanda Rieger, Aberdeen.

Chance was preceded in death by both of his grandfathers – Hubert Kaiser and Rayfeld Rieger.

Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
